The Town of Peace River

Your departure point for adventure is the town of Peace River situated in the northwestern corner of the province of Alberta, Canada on the banks of the Mighty Peace River.  It is the second largest center in northwestern Alberta with motels, hotels, restaurants, an indoor swimming pool and all amenities.  We have many campgrounds, parks and golf courses in and around our town and the history of the area is well presented in our museums and cairns.  Peace Rivers’ population is approximately 7,000 people with surrounding industry consisting of oil & gas, tourism, forestry and farming.

Peace River is on the route to Alaska, British Columbia, and Canada's northern Territories.  The Town of Peace River’s Tourist Information Centre is housed in the historic N. A. R. (Northern Alberta Railway) Station, located at the far north end of 100th (Main) Street.  Visitors to the station, will find the Peace River & District Chamber of Commerce, and the Tourist Information Centre with Gift Shop.

The River

The Peace River provides your route for exploring.  You depart from the town site and go north 37 miles (60 km) down stream on the Peace River to Peace Island.  The last two thirds of our journey is through untouched wilderness. The Peace River itself is one of the largest river water systems in the world. Traveling northeast from the headwaters in the interior of British Columbia towards Lake Athabasca the water flows 1,195 miles (1,923 km).
